Head: Skydive v1 (Mustache sanded down)
Rest: Crosshairs v1
Hat/Belt/Webgeat: Crosshairs v1
M-16: CORPS! Commando Force
Customizer's Comments: I admit it, I'm a fan of Clint Eastwood movies. One of my favorites is "Heartbreak Ridge," the story of a long-time Marine sergeant coming up on mandatory retirement trying to go out with things fixed that went wrong with his ex-wife and turning his Recon platoon into real Marines. During a bout of boredom I noticed that without the mustache I had sanded down, Skydive's head looked just like Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Highway (Eastwood), and with that it was just finding a body. There's several scenes in the movie that have Gunny Highway in BDUs that are close to what Crosshairs wears, so I used a spare I had laying around.
Codename: Gunny Highway
Filename: Highway, Thomas
Primary Military Specialty: Marine Force Recon
Secondary Military Specialty: Drill Instructor
Rank: E-7 (Marine Gunnery Sergeant)
Bio: Korean, Dominican in '68, three tours in 'Nam, Grenada, over thirty years in the Marine Corps. Gunny Highway's first major battle was at Heartbreak Ridge, a little piece of war that didn't have a name, just a number, where the platoon he was in was decimated. Holding of the final human wave single handedly and charging two machine gun nests, Highway was one of only three survivors of that battle. His actions at Heartbreak Ridge earned Highway the highest honor any soldier can recieve; The Congressional Medal of Honor.
In 1986, as he approached mandatory retirement (which, at the time, was still in effect), Gunny Highway transferred to the Recon Platoon of Foxtrot Company, Second Battalion, Eighth Regiment, Second Marine Division at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. Unfortunately for the less-than-highly motivated men of Recon Platoon, Highway refused to let them coast simply because he was close to retirement. Not long after he began to succeed in this, the United States invaded Grenada. It was during the moping-up operations there that Gunny Highway, though not knowing it at the time, had his first encounter with members of the G.I. Joe team. Shortly thereafter, Gunny Highway retired.
When the Joe Team was reinstated, drill instructors with battlefield experience were needed. The regimental commander of Eighth Regiment, previously Gunny Highway's platoon leader in Recon Platoon, Major Ring directed the Joe team to Gunny Highway. At first reluctant due to the still slightly strained relationship between his former ex-, and present wife and himself, Highway agreed after being informed that the Pit had an above ground housing area of the married members of the team and their families.
"Don't think this means we'll be swapping spit in the showers..." -- Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Highway, codename: "Gunny Highway."
