Professor Apple played a pretty prominent role in the Cobra organization. As the creator of Cobra Island, Professor Appel solidified himself within the hierarchy of Cobra, Until his death at the hands of Storm Shadow.

His death is something I never forgot as a kid, up to that point I always saw members of Cobra as pure evil. But Professor Appel's sacrifice to help save his daughter showed me that there was more to these "bad guys" than just world domination!
