Coldsnap has been a loner eversince he was a kid. He grew up in an apartment and there were no other kids living in other apartment units he could play with. In school, his classmates think he's weird because his interests were strange. Coldsnap was fascinated with ice. He would bring various insects to school placed in a plastic cup frozen in ice. He explained it was cryogenics. In high school, Coldsnap played in the hockey team, but later on quit due to depression when his girlfriend left her for another girl. Coldsnap's father
suggested him to join the army. Not only can he be physically and mentally fit, he could also become an arctic trooper. An idea that helped him recover from depression. Soon, Coldsnap was one of the elite arctic troopers of the military.

Because of his enthusiasm with new arctic weapons and vehicles, Coldsnap was given the opportunity to test drive G.I. Joe's latest arctic vehicle called the Hailstorm. Since then, the Hailstorm has been Coldsnap's partner in fighting the evil forces of Cobra. And for the first time, he never felt truly alone.
