Though it may be slower than a jet, the P-40 Warhawk is a modern update of an old classic. Not used for typical Modern day combat, the Warhawk is used as a close ground support plane with its ability to fly lower over any terrain than a jet while still carrying an impressive payload.
Tailspin's father flew A-1 Skyraider's in South East Asia, and Tailspin learned to fly behind the stick of two seater AD-1Q. When the Joe team was looking at including a propeller driven close support craft they were initially scoffed at by the NSC and Senate Armed Services Committee, The Joe team brought in Tailspin to conduct a live demonstration of the plane's capabilities quickly turning those jeers into cheers. The Joe team got its Warhawk, and Tailspin found a home for himself on the team as its pilot.
The Gen. Flagg figure always sort of looked like a pilot to me, and once I got a P-40 Warhawk from the Sgt. Savage line, I thought he would look great in the cockpit after some simple repainting.
